If you’re like most union business agents, you’re just trying to keep your head above water. Meetings, negotiations, arbitrations…and not enough staff to do it all.
At the FX Crowley Company, we help you cut through the noise and focus on your local union’s future. Where do you want to grow? Are there new employers you can develop or new venues to secure? Can you protect your union’s wages with prevailing wage legislation?
FX Crowley served as the Business Manager and Trustee for the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE), Local 16 in San Francisco for 15 years. Since forming the FX Crowley Company in 2013, he has used his experience, professional contacts and business relationships to help other local unions secure their future.
Unions have hired FX to help them pass prevailing wage legislation, enforce labor contracts and secure new employer agreements.
FX has served as President and Commissioner of the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission as well as San Francisco Port Commissioner. He also served three terms on San Francisco Travel’s Board of Directors and has been a member of the San Francisco Labor Council’s Executive Board since 1994.
“FX guided us through the labyrinth of city politics to help us establish prevailing wage standards for temporary tradeshow and event work. This gives us new leverage in the continuing struggle for fair wages, benefits and working conditions.”
Joe Toback, Local 510 Sign and Display Union
Union business representatives enjoy working with FX because as a former business rep himself, he understands their daily challenges. He brings a fresh perspective and fierce commitment to organized labor that is part of his DNA. FX’s father, the late Jack Crowley, led the San Francisco Labor Council in the 1970s and 80s.
“FX helps enforce our union contracts guaranteeing our members’ area standards. And he works to secure future work through agreements with major venue developers. We trust FX to represent our interests and get the job done.”
Dan Nicholson, IATSE Local 119 Broadcast Technicians
FX’s business partner and wife, Nancy Hayden Crowley, spearheads communications and marketing support for labor relations’ issues. A veteran in the communications industry with more than 30 years of experience in public relations, marketing and fund raising, she shares FX’s passion for helping working people.
One of Nancy’s most profound strengths lies in her ability to steer clients in the right direction, honing messages that tell clients’ key audiences “what’s in it for them.”
“The biggest mistake we make is talking about how an idea helps us,” she says. “We need to take that idea and focus on how it helps our target audience – such as union members, community folks or the media.”
Nancy develops and distills client messages in a variety of platforms, including E-mails, newsletters and press releases. She also provides media relations and media placement services.
“Nancy leaves no stone unturned when crafting a solution. She looks to her own life experience and community connections for patterns that will lead to success — and they serve her well.”
